A sculpture by the famous Nigerian artist/carver George Bamidele Areogun, (x-1994). His father was the Yoruba master carver Dada Areogun (1880-1954). In the early 1940´s he carved drums, doors and pillars for Ogboni houses in Opin, Ekiti. The famous Nigerian Yoruba artist Lamidi Fakeye (1928-2009) was from 1949 a apprentice to George Bamidele and they worked together until Bamidele´s death. Both of them became during their lifetime very skilled carvers and internationally famous. Bamidele started as a carver for the Ogboni cult and later did sculptures for the art market.

Works of Bamidele has been exhibited at George Washington Carvers Museum in Austin, USA. Bamidele and Fakeye are represented in many Museum and private collections.

This equestrian sculpture is signed G. Bamidele and comes from an Swedish collection.
