Ovimbundu prestige staff, Angola
Ovimbundu prestige staff, Angola
$0.00
A very fine Ovimbundu prestige staff with a “Mohican" hair crest and very nice carved hair pattern and ears. A similar staff, most likely by the same carver, in the collection of Penn Museum collected in situ 1922-1924 by the Swedish-American Amandus Johnson during an Angola expedition. Both staffs have very similar face details, eyes, ears, nose, hair pattern, cheek tattoos, protruding slightly open mouth and most important a carved vertical indentation/cavity on the chin under the mouth that actually looks a little like a second mouth.
