Shilluk shield with short spear, Sudan

Shilluk shield with a fixed short spear handle. The shield is made of a soft shell turtle. The shield is decorated with leather straps with intertwined aluminium strips. The spear is decorated with reptile skin and has a forged iron spiral around the bottom end. Two similar shields with same decoration is in the collection of National Museum of Ethnology in Leiden.
